PHUSED™ – PreHospital UltraSound Education
Point-of-care ultrasound is becoming increasingly popular in prehospital care due to both developments in technology and gradually reducing cost. PHUSED™ is intended to provide the prehospital practitioner with a hands-on introduction to ultrasonography and overview of the fundamental scans used in prehospital critical care.
Whilst core ultrasound courses exist for many in-hospital specialties, there remains no national standard course for practitioners working in prehospital emergency care. PHUSED™ is therefore intended to teach the learner the most impactful ultrasound applications and their appropriate use to care for the undifferentiated prehospital patient.
PHUSED™ is aimed at clinicians fulfilling levels 6+ on the Skills for Health Career Framework. Examples include:
Advanced Clinical Practitioner
EM ST2+ Doctor
Physics and knobology
Anatomy and physiology
Safe ultrasound use and governance
Focussed lung ultrasound
To allow for consolidation of learning, content will be delivered using a combination of lectures and practical sessions.
